Présentation 

The Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU) has a rich history. It has contributed to the development of McGill University, the well-being of its students, and the evolution of postsecondary education in Quebec. Today, the SSMU boasts over 240 clubs, numerous services, and activist positions that make headlines beyond student newspapers. SSMU attempts to achieve a lot through extensive student fees, historical community connections, and relentless advocacy for issues concerning not only McGill students but also the international community at large. The analysis of the union shows that its top priority should be to focus on the basics: increasing student engagement and winning their trust. Failure to do so would not be a death sentence for the SSMU but rather a continuation of its existence as a large, bureaucratic entity further disconnecting itself from the student body.
