The University of Calgary Students' Union (UCSU) is the elected voice of the University of Calgary’s undergraduates, acting with a strong focus on inclusive student services, advocacy, and club support. Its strengths lie in its wide range of services such as academic tutoring, affordability supports, and vibrant Q Centre supporting LGBTQ+ students, alongside proactive advocacy on equity, diversity, and affordability issues. The UCSU is known for fostering a culture of inclusivity and accessibility, actively engaging in student welfare programs and community-building activities. However, challenges remain in maintaining consistent student engagement and managing resource demands across a large and diverse student body. Governance structures emphasize transparency and strategic planning, but like many student unions, the UCSU must continuously improve accountability mechanisms and adapt to evolving student needs to maximize representation effectiveness. Overall, UCSU balances strong service provision with ongoing efforts to enhance governance and student participation.
